Job Summary

Our client in the construction industry seeks to hire a visionary and results-oriented Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our established mid-sized civil construction firm into its next phase of growth and success. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of strong business acumen and a deep understanding of the construction industry gained from hands-on civil engineering experience. The CEO will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, financial performance, and day-to-day operations of the company, as well as driving the Company’s growth. The CEO will work closely with the executive team, stakeholders, and partners to ensure the successful execution of business objectives and the achievement of financial targets.

Job Description

Strategic Leadership:

  • Ability to translate, develop and establish goals set by the Board of Directors
  • Develop and communicate the company's vision, mission, and strategic objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans to drive and ensure business growth, profitability and market expansion.
  • Identify emerging opportunities, market trends, and competitive threats to guide strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering services, meeting project deadlines and specifications.

 

Operations Management:

  • Oversee all aspects of the business, including pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases.

 

Financial Management:

  • Review developed annual budgets, financial forecasts and performance metrics to drive financial success
  • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Optimize capital allocation and investment decisions to maximize shareholder value
  • Manage financial risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements 

 

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including investors, partners, communities, regulators and communities within the construction industry (local and global)
  • Represent the company in negotiations, partnerships and industry forums to advance business objectives 
  • Communicate effectively with the board of directors, providing regular updates on company performance, risks and opportunities 

 

People Leadership:

  • Recruit, develop and retain top talent to build a high-performing team 
  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to business heads and all employees, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and innovation
  • Promote initiatives to create and ensure a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or other related courses
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree from a reputable university. 
  • Minimum 10 years experience in the construction industry, with a proven track record of success in a senior leadership role in the construction and civil engineering industry 
  • Membership of a professional body in line with qualification/experience
  • Proficiency in a relevant ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system and civil construction industry software such as Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam and AutoCAD
  • Extensive civil engineering background with a strong understanding of construction methodologies, project management, and safety protocols.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, economic analysis and risk management
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve company goals
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including investors, partners, regulators and communities.
